Blue Devil Girls' Volleyball Gets First Victory
The Blue Devil girls' volleyball team waited weeks for it to happen so when it finally did, Huntington happily celebrated its first league victory of the season, a 3-0 verdict over visiting Comsewogue.
The Blue Devils have struggled to find consistency this fall, but they have never stopped trying. Against the Warriors, Huntington won three consecutive games, 25-18, 25-21 and 25-15. When victory was finally secured, it was as if all the earlier losses had never occurred. The team felt as if it was on top of the world.
"We have been competitive with the best teams in the league, but we really need to win another match for the girls to believe it," said Caroline Reilly, Huntington's head coach said. "We beat Cold Spring Harbor earlier in season but that was non-league. We really wanted this one."
Senior Haley Brown led the way against Comsewogue, tallying seven kills and four blocks. Junior Mia Hinton added five kills and five blocks and freshman Heather Forster notched another six blocks.
Senior Natalie Acton displayed exceptional passing and junior Samantha Greenidge and senior Laurelle Byrne-Cody provided sensational setting. Junior Raynisha Witherspoon and freshman Marygrace Trousdell contributed to Huntington's fine net play. Senior Lydia Aparicio and sophomore Cynthia Gowani helped shore up the back row.
If Reilly gets her way, Huntington isn't finished winning meets this year.
