Restaurant Chef Visits
Washington School
Jenni Morris drove nearly 60 miles to visit with Washington Primary School teacher Debbie Lawrence's class last week and it was worth the time.
Ms. Morris works as a chef-owner at Bonnie Jean's restaurant located on Main Road in Southold. The casual American eatery is popular with locals as well as day-trippers. Diners sit at indoor tables or booths or outside on a covered porch during warmer weather. Breakfast, lunch and dinner and an elaborate selection of ice cream is available.
Last week at Washington School, Ms. Morris came armed with all the supplies and ingredients she needed to lead the class in a lesson on how to make an apple pie. Needless to say, the pies looked and smelled delicious.
"The students carefully followed Chef Jenni's recipe and each made a pie," said Mrs. Lawrence, who was Ms. Morris' softball coach several years ago. "The pies are being donated to the Helping Hand Rescue Mission and will be delivered to needy families in time for Thanksgiving."
Ms. Morris' visit served many purposes, including helping students learn the value in being good citizens and helping others in the community. The youngsters had a great time.
Thanks to Jenni Morris, several families in our community will have a sweet ending to a happy Thanksgiving," Mrs. Lawrence said.
