Finley Finally Tops HHS in Floor Hockey
Three years of futility finally ended last Thursday night for J. Taylor Finley Middle School faculty and staff members who topped their Huntington High School counterparts in a floor hockey game at Louis D. Giani Gymnasium.
The annual contest between the two schools is a matter of bragging rights for the winner. Last week it was Finley who scored first, putting the first goal in the net early in the first period. The teams traded goals from then on, eventually knotting the score, 3-3.
A refreshment stand and raffle baskets were set-up in the gym lobby area. Superintendent James W. Polansky stopped by and PTA groups from both buildings worked hard to make the night a success. Finley Principal John Amato served as the game's referee.
With the score tied late in the third period, both squads cranked it up. "The competitive juices were flowing as Finley wanted a win," Mr. Amato said. There was some hard checking and gutty play leading up the Finley science teacher Thomas Tantillo's deciding goal, which sealed the Falcons' historic 4-3 victory.
