Huntington School Board Notes

Huntington School Board members have approved leaves of absence for teachers Yafit Lucas (speech / Flower Hill / Sept. 1-Jan. 31, 2012), Jennifer Stucchio (special education / Washington / Sept. 1-Jan. 31, 2012), Tiffanie Kelly (classroom / Southdown / May 20-June 24) and Debra Lawrence (special education / Washington / April 24-May 15).

Trustees approved a return from a leave of absence for J. Taylor Finley Middle School special education teacher Carol Emmerman, effective Sept. 1. Trustees accepted the resignation of teacher aide Carol Conforti, effective June 24.

Christine Draghi (reading/Woodhull/April 12-June 24 approximately) and Tirsa Oliva (dual language/Jefferson/April 12-June 24 approximately) were approved for long-term substitute appointments. Karen Cronin was hired to work as a five-hour food service worker at Flower Hill School.

Trustees also took the following actions:

• Excessed the positions of 92 faculty and staff members.

• Authorized additional work for Angela Berner, Maria Lanzot, Allison Daly-Muradyan, Karen Grasso and Donnamarie O'Shaughnessy. The group will be involved in English language arts curriculum writing and assessment development. Their stipends will be funded through the Race to the Top grant.

• Authorized district directors Joseph Leavy, Vicki L. Mingin and Marybeth Robinette to provide professional development workshops during the current school year.

• Approved a change in tenure date to June 23 for school psychologist Karen Mallen-Ozimkowski and teacher assistant Kathryn Einhorn.

• Authorized Kelly Rodriquez and Stephany Perez to work as substitute teachers. They will be paid $90 per diem when their services are needed.

• Authorized guidance counselor Bernadette Walsh to receive for school related mileage.

• Authorized the disposal of 16 overhead projectors and a transparency maker from Jack Abrams School and a Hotpoint freezer from J. Taylor Finley Middle School.

• Approved a budget transfer in the amount of $330,000 to cover the costs associated with this year's teacher retirement incentive.

• Awarded a bid in the amount of $17,738 to Nassau Food Service Equipment for two commercial dishwashers to be used at Southdown School and Finley Middle School.

• Approved a consultant services contract with Odile Montel for French translation services for testing. She will be paid at the rate of $48.97 per hour.

• Approved a consultant services contract with South Shore Center for Speech, Language and Swallowing Disorders, LLP. They will be paid $225 for bilingual speech evaluations and $45 per half hour for attendance at Committee on Special Education meetings.

• Awarded a bid in the amount of $500 to Sir Speedy Printing for the printing of 650 copies of the mini-calendar.

• Awarded a bid in the amount of $6,097 to AC Envelope for the printing of 15,500 copies of the district calendar using a 4/2 process.

• Approved bid awards for magazines as part of the Educational Data Services cooperative bid.

• Awarded bids for the printing of student agendas. Premier Agendas, Inc. was given the bid award for student agendas at Flower Hill, Jefferson, Washington and Southdown primary schools at a cost of $2.05 per agenda. KTS Agendas was given the award at Woodhull Intermediate ($2.05), J. Taylor Finley Middle School ($2.59) and Huntington High School ($1.99).
