Sports Participation Strong at Huntington High School
Spring season sports participation has been running strong at Huntington High School, according to figures released by the athletic department. Coaches reported a total of 358 student-athletes on the rosters of the 13 teams the school fielded, 13 more than last year.
The varsity crew team had the largest roster with 51 athletes, followed by varsity girls' track and field (50 athletes) and boys' track and field (45 athletes). The junior varsity boys' lacrosse team's roster featured 43 players, while the varsity boys' lacrosse team boasted 35 athletes.
The baseball program included 17 varsity players and a roster of 18 on the junior varsity squad. There were 15 varsity softball players and 17 on the JV softball team.
Varsity girls' lacrosse team has 20 players and the JV girls' lacrosse squad has a roster of 17. Boys' varsity tennis consisted of 14 players while the JV net team featured a squad of 16.
According to Huntington Director of Athletic Georgia D. McCarthy, the seven boys' teams have 188 participants while the five girls' squads had 119 athletes on their rosters. The one co-ed team (crew) had 51 members. There are 23 coaches involved with the high school spring program.
