The stats compiled by the Huntington girls' lacrosse team in its 22-6 victory over visiting Bellport leap off the page. Emma Hayes-Hurley scored six goals and added five assists for 11 points. Hannah Burnett had five goals and four assists for nine points. The numbers are career bests for the two star players.
Sarah Ehrman had two goals and five assists and teammate Alexis Thompson notched two goals and two assists. Stephanie Rafuse also scored twice.
Katie Healy (1g, 1a), Alyssa Amorison (1g, 1a), Shea Scully (1g), Colleen Wright (1g, 1a) and Madison Biernacki (1g) also contributed to the offense.
Goalies Anna Tesoriero (four saves) and Samantha Mohr (two saves) were solid in the net.
Softball Wins Big
The Blue Devil girls' softball team defeated host Rocky Point, 13-2. Erica Adrono was a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs batted in and Casey Magerle went 4-for-5 with a pair of RBIs. Jackie Harrington fanned seven batters en route to a complete game victory.
Boys' Track Update
The Huntington boys' track and field team is scheduled to wrap-up its regular season this week with a dual meet against Comsewogue. The Blue Devils will travel to Bayport-Blue Point High School on Saturday, May 14 for the Suffolk County Relays and then Huntington's freshmen and sophomores will compete in the Suffolk Frosh/Soph Championship at Longwood High School on Wednesday, May 18.
The Division Championships is set for Monday, May 23 and Wednesday, May 25 with the state qualifying meet to follow on June 3-4.
Plenty of Medals for Blue Devils
The Huntington girls' track and field team won its fair share of medals in the Westhampton Beach Invitational.
Alexandra Martinolich was first in the 400m intermediate hurdles. Molly Brambil and Megan Healy finished second and sixth, respectively, in the 1500m run. Dania Merilan finished third in the open 100m dash. Hannah Helrich was third in the novice 100m dash and second in the triple jump.
Maia Hinton finished third in both shot put and discus. Michelle Clearvoux and Lidia Aparicio also medaled in shot put. Jennifer Polster finished sixth in the long jump.
Hayley Drace and Emani Mency finished second and fourth, respectively, in the freshman 100m high hurdles. Alyson Coleman was fifth in the novice high hurdles.
In the 4x100 relay, Cristina Badalamenti, Helrich, Merilan and Polster finished fourth in their best time of the spring.
Tennis Wins Last Meet
The close-knit Huntington boys' tennis team closed out its season with a 5-2 victory over Kings Park. The win put a smile on head coach Jamie Fishlow's face.
First doubles teammates Max Fehrs and Sam Johnson coasted to a 6-0, 6-0 win. Rob Hughes and David Stillman captured second doubles, 6-1, 6-1.
Michael Valente won No. 2 singles, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1. Max Zalinka took No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Kings Park forfeited No. 3 doubles to the Blue Devils.
Huntington finished the season with a 4-6 mark in Suffolk League II play, 4-8 overall.
Another Scoring Fest
The Huntington girls' lacrosse team built a 12-2 halftime lead en route to an 18-4 victory over Mattituck/Greenport/Southold last Friday afternoon at Blue Devil Stadium.
Hannah Burnett (four goals, three assists), Emma Hayes-Hurley (4g, 3a), Alexis Thompson (4g), Sarah Ehrman (2g, 3a), Stephanie Rafuse (1g), Colleen Wright (2a) and Katie Healy (1a) led Huntington's potent offense.
Anna Tesoriero (eight saves) and Samantha Mohr (four saves) were once again effective in goal for the Blue Devils, who seem to be getting ready to peak at just the right time.
The victory improved Huntington's record in Suffolk Division II play to 8-3.
Badalamenti Reaches Decision
Huntington High School senior Cristina Badalamenti has decided to attend Sacred Heart University in the fall. The teenager said she plans to major in occupational therapy.
Badalamenti has been a star on the Blue Devil soccer, winter track and spring track teams over the past four years. She was a member on two record-setting Huntington relay teams. The teenager intends to play club soccer at Sacred Heart.
"Hard work, dedication and never giving up," sum up Badalamenti's recipe for success. She's president of the Italian Honor Society and among the top students in Huntington's Class of 2011.
