John McGrath was splendid in goal, stopping 15 shots to help lift the Huntington boys' lacrosse team to a 5-4 victory over Rocky Point at Blue Devil Stadium.

McGrath, an Adelphi-bound senior, enjoyed possibly his best game ever, keeping Huntington in the game. The two teams were evenly matched, as they battled to 2-2 stalemate through the first half of play. The Blue Devils scored three times in the third quarter to build a 5-3 lead and then held on to raise their record to 5-2 in Suffolk Division II.

Nick Saputo scored two goals. Jack Cutrone had a goal and an assist. Jack Castelli and Will Coffey also scored.

McCarthy Gets the Win

Vinny McCarthy hurled six innings, striking out eight and allowing just two hits and one earned run as the Huntington baseball team nipped Port Jefferson, 5-4. The Blue Devils took a 5-1 lead in the third inning on Tyler Macca's three-run home run.

Matt Curley went 2-for-2 as Huntington picked up its second win of the season.

Zalinka Clinches Tennis Win

Max Zelinka won his fourth singles match, 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) to clinch the Huntington boys' tennis team's victory at Smithtown East, 4-3.

Huntington's Mike Valente captured second singles, 6-2, 6-1. Rob Hughes and David Stillman came from behind to win their first doubles match, 5-7, 7-5, 6-2. Max Fehrs and Sam Johnson grabbed second doubles, 6-3, 6-3.

Burnett has a Habit

Hannah Burnett has a habit of scoring goals when the Huntington girls' lacrosse team needs them most. The Blue Devil sophomore put the ball past the East Hampton goalie four times and assisted on two other goals as Huntington topped the Bonackers, 12-10.

The Blue Devils jumped out to a 9-3 first quarter lead before East Hampton rebounded in the second frame, outscoring Huntington, 7-3 to make it a close game.

Emilie Pugliese tallied three goals and an assist for Huntington. Alyssa Amorison (2g, 2a) and Emma Hayes-Hurley (2g, 3a) and Sarah Ehrman (1g, 2a) also enjoyed big games. Colleen Wright and Alexis Thompson picked up assists. Eighth grade sensation Anna Tesoriero made eight saves in goal.

The Bonackers' talented goalie, Allison Charde, kept her team in the game by stopping 17 Huntington shots.

Medals Galore for Blue Devils

Molly Brambil captured the freshman 800m run and finished third in the 1500m run to pace the Huntington High School girls' track and field team in the Freshman-Sophomore Invitational at Baldwin High School.

Maia Cadel-Hinton earned third place finishes in both shot put and discus. Emani Mency placed fifth in the 100m high hurdles and Kerri-Ann Giambruno was fourth in the 800m run. Megan Healy placed fifth in the 800m run and Catherine Koumas was sixth in the 100m dash.

Huntington Nips ESM at Finish Line

 The Huntington boys' track and field team nipped Eastport-South Manor, 76-65. The Blue Devils gained the victory on the strength of many strong performances, including Y'Majesty Allen in the 100m dash, Dante Allen in shot put, Ryan Ackermann in the 800m run, Trayvon Toney in discus, Andrew Funk in pole vault and Eric Szilagy in the 200m and 400m runs and the triple jump.
