Correll Wins Political Action Committee Award

Steve Correll might be a teenager, but he knows a thing or two about politics. The Huntington High School senior is this year's Political Action Committee Award recipient at the school.
The award is presented annually "to a student who not only knows politics, but has a true interest, or, dare I say love of political science," Huntington social studies teacher Deborah Mellon told a senior academic awards night crowd of about 300 in the high school auditorium.
"In this age of cynicism, when so many feel anger or apathy toward the government and our politicians, it's wonderful to see a student who believes in the system and is eager to make the necessary changes we need and require," Ms. Mellon said. Keeping up with the political scene is difficult enough, but this student delves deeper into the causes and seeks out expert opinions in order to make sense of the chaos we call Washington."
Mr. Correll will be attending Binghamton University in the fall. "It is never difficult for me to choose a student each year because we are lucky here at Huntington to have students who go the extra mile and take on the difficult choices," Ms. Mellon said.
