SEPTA Offers Thanks at Luncheon

Few organizations can match the energy and enthusiasm of SEPTA, the Huntington School District's special education parent-teacher association. It is one of the premier such groups in the country, well-known for its advocacy for quality educational experiences and support programs.
At SEPTA's annual "Thank You" luncheon at Black & Blue on Wall Street in Huntington village, volunteers celebrated the success of the organization's many activities and charted plans for next year.
The group has a tradition of being relentless in pursuing its goals. It supports all sorts of innovative programs for students and their teachers, including a grant program that provides funds for special initiatives.
Several district officials attended the luncheon including Vicki Mingin, Huntington's executive director of special education and student support services and Nancy Wilson, the department's assistant director.
Plans for next year are already well underway. SEPTA offers parents of special education students numerous opportunities to learn more about district support services and to network with other parents. "SEPTA has done so much to benefit our district over the years," Superintendent John J. Finello said.
Kim Scappaticci and Julie Porzio served as SEPTA's co-presidents this year. Next year, current Vice-President Christine Biernacki will swap positions with Ms. Scappaticci and become co-president of the organization.
