Trustees Grant Tenure to Faculty

Huntington School Board members granted tenure to eleven teachers and one teacher assistant during their Monday night meeting. The session was preceded by a reception in the Jack Abrams School rotunda in honor of members of the group.

Teachers approved for tenure appointments included Heather Barfuss (special education), Wendy Bonilla (elementary classroom), Christopher Hender (special education), Chelsea Jablon (music), Kathleen Mallen-Ozimkowski (special education), Amanda Meyer (math), Ingrid Moreira (foreign language), Matthew Perlongo (math), Erika Sabogal (elementary classroom), Esmeralda Tello (social studies) and Ronald Wilson (attendance). Trustees also granted tenure to teacher assistant Kathryn Einhorn.

Superintendent John J. Finello offered his congratulations to the group in brief remarks during the reception. "Keep on making a difference in the lives of your students," Mr. Finello told the faculty members.

New York State Education Law requires teachers and administrators to serve a three year probationary period before being eligible to receive a tenure appointment. During this time faculty members are subjected to intensive observation and evaluation and can be dismissed for virtually any reason. (Faculty members who have previously received tenure in New York State are required to serve only a two year probationary period.)
