Huntington Lax Plays for
Suffolk Crown Today

A crowd of several thousand Blue Devil fans is expected to cheer on the Huntington High School boys' lacrosse team as it battles Shoreham-Wading River for the Suffolk Class B championship today at Stony Brook University at 5:30 p.m.

Huntington (14-4) advanced to the county finals by topping previously undefeated Comsewogue, 12-11 in overtime. Shoreham-Wading River (16-2) moved into the championship game by turning back Eastport-South Manor, 12-10.

Huntington will rely on its talented attack unit, quick midfielders and rugged defense, including goalie John McGrath. SWR is a well-balanced team that features skilled players at every position. The Blue Devils hold their opponents in high regard and are prepared for a titanic battle.

"I think for this game, the team is more pumped then ever," Huntington senior Nick Saputo said. "No one on the team has ever played in a championship game, making everyone try even harder. We couldn't be more ready to give it our all."

The Blue Devils entered the post-season seeded No. 5 in the Class B bracket. The squad edged No. 4 Islip in the quarterfinals, 11-9 before nipping Comsewogue (16-1) to reach the title game. Huntington has played hard down the stretch with every member of the team turning their game up a few notches.

"As a kid growing up, you always dream of playing in a championship game at Stony Brook in front of all your family and friends," McGrath said. "We're going to leave all out on the field and a show everyone how good we really are."

Tickets to the game will be available at the gate for $6. "This is the biggest game of all of our careers," Huntington junior Dan Plant said. "No one on our team has been here before, and our goal was to play at Stony Brook with these seniors since football. Everyone will play 110 percent and it is sure to be a great game."
