Italian Honor Society
Holds Induction Ceremony
Huntington High School's Italian honor society inducted ten new members during a ceremony near the close of the school year.
The induction ceremony was a joint affair for the Italian, French and Spanish honor societies. In all, 48 new members were welcomed into the ranks of the three organizations. Current members led the ceremony with grace, dignity and even a touch of elegance.
The new Italian honor society members earned induction by distinguishing themselves by performing at a high academic level, according to faculty advisor Silvia Gilbert
Senior Aliyah Cohen "gave a terrific going away speech about her experiences and memories of the Italian classes," Ms. Gilbert said. "She recounted some funny experiences and said she will hold these memories dear as she continues to study the language at the University of California at Davis."
Sophomores Judith Greco and Joshua Stickell performed a duet of an Italian song, astonishing the audience with their angelic voices. "It is a marvel how such young people could have such innate ability," Ms. Gilbert said.
The newly inducted members include Emily Coleman, KerriAnn Giambruno, Judith Greco, Kathleen Healy, Holden Kata, Emily McGoldrick, Rebecca Palladino, Elizabeth Sager, Emal Wafajaw and Anna Wertheim.
Near the end of the program the newly minted honor society members were presented with certificates and then participated in the traditional candle lighting ceremony as the recited the society's pledge in Italian.
