Washington Honors May's Top Students

Before the blackboards were cleaned for the last time and school closed for summer vacation, Washington Primary School faculty members recognized their top students for the month of May with fancy certificates.

The Washington Ways program recognizes position behavior and encourages students to be safe, respectful and responsible. The youngsters are given various colored tickets by teachers and support staff members whenever they display sterling behavior. Students can earn a ticket at any time, anywhere in the building or even out on the playground or playing fields.

May's red ticket honorees included Joselin Benitez-Villatoro, Mackenzie Ahern, Ella Torregrossa, Asyria Rios, Lucas Cirlicione, Nicholas Smalling, Anthony Villatoro, Kaylee Jones, Erik Bonilla-Gomez, Matthew Fabian, Natalie St. Ours, Brianna Jones, Efrain Garcia, Kiara Klein, Caitlyn Palermo, Melissa Torres, Emma Grassi, Jackie Salgado and Eli Mollineaux.

The blue ticket classes that were recognized belong to teachers Debra Lawrence and Melissa Lang;

"It's exciting to recognize students for their exceptional behavior and efforts," Principal Marsha Neville said

Red tickets are presented to individuals for outstanding behavior outside of classrooms, including in hallways, buses, the playground and cafeteria, etc. At the end of the month, the student in each class with the greatest number of red tickets is recognized with a special certificate. The names of the honorees are read out over the school's public address system.

Entire classes can earn blue tickets for positive group behavior out-of-the-classroom. Blue tickets are also awarded to the two classes within the building with the most tickets overall.

White tickets are awarded weekly for good behaviors and actions in the classroom. White ticket winners are honored with special recognition in their classroom at the end of each week and their names are announced every Monday morning.
