Joyce Keegan Plans Active Retirement

Joyce Keegan is excited to begin a new chapter in her life. For the past 30 years she has played a key role in the Huntington School District's business office. Soon, she will be leading a life of leisure and fun.

Mrs. Keegan is a senior accountant and for the past 14 years has been the assistant to David H. Grackin, the district's assistant superintendent for finance and management services.

"I am looking forward to not working everyday," Mrs. Keegan said on the eve of her retirement. "I will not miss the work, but I will miss all the people."

"Joyce's knowledge of the school district has been an invaluable asset to the central office," Mr. Grackin said. "She has helped supervise the business office during the time we've been together."

Mrs. Keegan and her husband plan to sell their Long Island home and move to a house they own upstate. "We also plan on traveling this spring in our motor home to visit the national parks in the west," she said. The couple enjoys many outdoor activities, such as camping, motorcycling, snowmobiling, hiking and gardening.

Mrs. Keegan is proud of her work in the district. She said "the business office staff has worked together to develop procedures and controls that have resulted in many positive audit reports from various government agencies." By maintaining detailed records, she has helped maximize the district's revenues from federal grants, state aid and capital project expenditures.

"Joyce has always been a positive force, very diligent and always accurate and precise in her work," Mr. Grackin said.

"We appreciate Joyce's dedication and commitment to the district over the past three decades," Superintendent John J. Finello said. "All of us wish her a lengthy, healthy and thoroughly enjoyable retirement."
