Blue Devil Basketball Splits Games
The Blue Devil varsity basketball teams split a pair of home games at Huntington High School's Louis D. Giani Gymnasium last week. The girls' squad topped visiting Mount Sinai, 54-25 while the boys' team dropped a heartbreaker to high-flying Bayport-Blue Point, 58-56.
The Blue Devil girls' team was led by Jackie Waldron's 20 points and 15 rebounds. Huntington went on a tear from the start of play, racing to a 19-5 first quarter lead and a 27-10 halftime advantage. Huntington outscored Mount Sinai in the second half, 27-15.
Heather Forster and Raynisha Witherspoon each poured in eight points and pulled down a dozen rebounds, respectively. Rachel Bosco scored seven points. Emma Hayes-Hurley added seven points and six assists. Katie Nugent and Shea Scully also scored field goals.
The non-league victory evened Huntington's record at 3-3 through its first six games under new head coach Mike Kaplan.

The Huntington boys' basketball team fell behind Bayport-Blue Point early, trailing 21-14 after the first quarter, before narrowing the gap to 32-28 at halftime. Huntington closed to 44-42 by the end of the third quarter, but wasn't able to make up the difference by the final horn.
John Patron led all Blue Devil scorers with 23 points. P.J. White chipped in with 13 points and Treyvon Brown added 10. John McCarthy (six points) and Trye Brown (four points) also poured in baskets.
The victory helped BBP to 6-1 overall. Huntington fell to 3-3 under new head coach Brad Reminick. The three Blue Devil losses have been by a combined total of ten points.
