Trustees Approve Finley
Curriculum Audit
The Center for Curriculum Renewal will perform an external school curriculum audit at J. Taylor Finley Middle School. Huntington School Board approved hiring the company during a public meeting on February 7.
The New York State Education Department requires such an audit for a school identified in "Corrective Action (Year 1) Focused," according to Dr. Kenneth A. Card, Jr., assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction.
Three companies responded to the Huntington School District's "request for proposal" to perform the auditing services. Dr. Card felt the Center for Curriculum Renewal had a good "track record of developing significant and healthy relationships with the districts in which they worked."
Dr. Card said during his reference checks on the companies he learned "the Enlarged City School District of Middletown reported that seven of its schools were on the 'list' and to date only one school remains. They attribute, among other things, their schools' 'Good Standing' status to the work they have completed with the Center for Curriculum Renewal."
The audit will cost the district $58,725.
