Festive Holiday Concert Planned
for Dec. 20
This year's Huntington High School holiday concert promises to be a festive affair. A large crowd is expected to attend the free event, which is scheduled for Tuesday, December 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the school auditorium. Tickets are not required.
The concert will include a variety of holiday and classical selections. The concert and symphony orchestras will perform under the direction of teacher Lisa Leonardi. Teacher Veronica Mainville will direct Huntington's well-regarded chamber and concert choirs.
The concert orchestra is comprised of freshmen and sophomore string students. The symphony orchestra's junior and senior string students will perform separately and then again with the full symphony orchestra, which will include string students in grades 9-12 as well as select woodwind, brass and percussion students from the band.
Highlights of the symphony orchestra's program include The William Tell Overture by Giacchino Rossini, Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony, movement five (Sheperd's Hymn) and Hallelujah from Handel,s Messiah
As is tradition, the evening's finale will be the "Hallelujah" chorus from Handel's Messiah. All alumni and community in attendance are invited to join current high school students for the finale by either singing or playing along with the symphony orchestra.
"This promises to be an enjoyable evening of wonderful music," Huntington Superintendent James W. Polansky said.
