Talented Players Captain Finley
Girls' Soccer
It wasn't an undefeated season, or event close to it, but there was slow, steady progress for the J. Taylor Finley Middle School girls' soccer team this fall. The Falcons finished 4-5-1 under head coach Linda Costello-Roth and were a competitive squad.
Finley was captained by four talented players: Kristina Abt, Heather Bast, Alexandra Koumas and Emily Williams. "The captains led a very strong team in a mature manner," Costello-Roth said. "All took their jobs very seriously. It was probably the best group of girls I have coached so far and they led a fantastic captain's practice."
A roster of 34 players provided the Falcons with plenty of depth at every position. "This year our focus was on conditioning," Costello-Roth said. "The girls came with very good soccer skills. Throughout the season, as the girls got stronger and their speed and endurance increased, their confidence soared and their level rose as well."
Finley is expected to return a strong core of current seventh graders next fall.
