Huntington Filmmakers Vie for
MSG "V" Awards
Two young filmmakers from Huntington High School are in the running for MSG Varsity "V" Awards this spring.
David Lillienstein is a finalist for Best Original Production and Melissa Rosenberg is vying for a Best Editing award. Mr. Lillienstein's award will be determined by popular vote through 12 noon on Friday, April 29, so he's hoping the Huntington community rallies behind his entry, "Walk Through Hell."
MSG Varsity and the New York Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences have teamed up for the contest. Industry professionals will serve as judges, except in Mr. Lillienstein's category, which is a "viewer's choice" decision.
To view and vote for Mr. Lillienstein's video, visit www.msgvarsity.com/2011-v-awards-best-original-productions-1.453178. The Huntington senior is one of just four filmmakers to reach the Best Original Production finals.
Ms. Rosenberg's video, "Brothers," is one of five short films to advance to the Best Editing finals. Judges from the NY NATAS will select the winner next month.
Open to all high school students in Cablevision's service area, "the "V" Awards encourage students to capture their own school's stories and provides high schools with an opportunity to share with their communities the positive things their students are doing," according to the MSG website. The competition drew about 3,600 submissions from more than 170 schools from the tri-state area.
Mr. Lillienstein needs support from the Huntington High School community. The teenager's short film has been called a "clever stop motion video" and it has been called "flawless" by judges in competitions this spring.
"Let's all get behind David," Huntington Superintendent John J. Finello said. "It's a feather in the cap of the Huntington High School video program to have two of our students in the finals of this prestigious contest. We wish David and Melissa the very best of luck."
The award winners will be announced on May 14 at 7:30 p.m. on Cablevision's IO TV Channel 14. Each of the winning filmmakers will be awarded a handsome trophy. Their respective high school will reap a $5,000 donation.
