SCALA Awards for Huntington Artists

The annual Suffolk County Art Leaders Association's senior art competition is always a high-powered affair. It draws an incredibly diverse and talented field of entries who vie for prestigious honors. To win any award, let alone first place, is quite an accomplishment.

For the third consecutive year, two Huntington High School students received awards. Asher Reed captured first place in graphic design while Louis Contino won first place in mixed media. Each senior was presented with a framed certificate and a check for $50.

This year's SCALA All-County & Mary Reay Scholarship Show was held at Gallery on the Hill at the Brookhaven Amphitheatre and Cultural Arts Center at Bald Hill in Farmingville. There was a well-attended two-hour Saturday reception, for teachers, students and parents.

Huntington's Michael Serbanoiu also participated in the show with an intriguing multiple exposure self-portrait photograph. The competition features seven different art categories.
