Huntington Trio Plays in
Suffolk All-Star Game

Blue Devil football players Richie Fernandez, Dante Allen and Calvin Bollar suited up for one last game together on Thanksgiving eve. They played in the Suffolk PAL All-Star game at Stony Brook University's Kenneth J. LaValle Stadium and helped the "white" team grab an exciting 21-14 victory over the "blue" squad.

All of the players in the game had been recognized as either All-Division or All-County this fall. They were selected following try-outs. The "white" team consisted of players from Suffolk Division II and III schools while the "blue" team drew it members from Division I and IV teams.

A large number of Huntington High School fans turned out for the "Thanks for Giving" game on a cold evening to cheer the Blue Devil trio on. "It was really great to play one last game with Dante and Calvin, who I have been playing football with since seventh grade," Fernandez said. "It was especially sweet to play at Stony Brook. After not making the Suffolk finals, we were all really disappointed that we would not get the opportunity to play at Stony Brook, but playing the All-Star game made up for that, in part."

An estimated crowd of more than 2,000 watched the seniors play. As fans passed through the gate, organizers collected canned and non-perishable foods, which were donated to groups that help feed Long Island's hungry.

"It has been a great season and I am proud to say that I played for Huntington this year," Fernandez said. "I will really miss not being part of the football program here next year. It's been great!"
