Natasha Siegel Earns Prudential Community Award
Natasta Siegel has earned a Prudential Spirit of the Community Award.Natasha Siegel, a Huntington High School senior, has earned the Prudential Spirit of the Community Award in recognition of her exceptional volunteer service and involvement.
Ms. Siegel is now in the running for a state award, which carries a $1,000 stipend and paid trip to Washington, D.C. Finalists in the program will be announced in February.
Huntington junior Cole Cook and seniors Ryan Pavelka and Karla Bracomonte-Lopez each earned a Certificate of Merit in the program.
According to the program's website, "the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program is the United States' largest youth recognition program based exclusively on volunteer community service. The program was created in 1995 by Prudential in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals to honor middle level and high school students for outstanding service to others at the local, state, and national level."
The purpose of the program is to recognize young people who are making a difference in their community. Since the program was founded 15 years ago, more than 280,000 young people and teenagers in grades 5-12 have participated in it and more than 90,000 have been formally recognized.
In addition to the United States, the program is also offered to students in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Ireland and India.
