Halesite Fire Department
Visits Flower Hill

The Halesite Fire Department visited Flower Hill Primary School students and brought along several trucks and plenty of equipment and assorted gear, all of which fascinated the youngsters.
The firefighters came to celebrate Fire Prevention Month. A fire engine and hook and ladder truck captivated the children. Students were escorted inside the vehicles and learned about the various gizmos and gadgets that get utilized during actual emergencies.
The visit included short presentations on fire safety, too. Students were given practical advice on how to avoid fires and what to do in the case of an emergency situation, including not panicking and following a previously established plan.
The youngsters were especially excited to try on the boots, hats, gas masks and coats used by firefighters. The visit wrapped up with the Flower Hill kindergarteners being given their very own plastic fire hats.
"We appreciate the time the Halesite and Huntington fire departments take in visiting our elementary schools each year and discussing fire safety with our students," Superintendent John J. Finello said. "The work of these departments is crucial to our community and the firefighters have a way of keeping our students excited."
