Huntington High School varsity boys’ lacrosse coach Eric Triolo will be inducted into the South Huntington Wildcat Booster Club Hall of Fame on June 17 at the Woodbury Country Club.

 

Mr. Triolo, who teaches physical education at Jack Abrams Intermediate School and is a driver education program instructor at the high school, was a star lacrosse player during his years as a student-athlete at Walt Whitman High School.

McCarty’s Big Day

Vinny McCarty had the biggest day of his baseball career, pitching a complete game six-hitter, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored to lift the Blue Devils over Comsewogue, 6-2.

 

McCarty was brilliant, striking out two and not issuing a single walk during his masterpiece. Jimmy Olivia also went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.

Saputo Scores Three Goals

Nick Saputo scored three goals and added an assist but the Huntington boys’ lacrosse team fell to Haborfields, 12-10. Jack Dever contributed two goals and an assist to the Blue Devil offense.

 

Huntington led 3-1 after the first quarter but was outscored 4-1 in the second frame. The Blue Devils pulled even at 8-8 by the end of three quarters. Harborfields went ahead in the fourth quarter before Huntington’s Will Coffey tied the game with less than two remaining, 10-10. But, the Tornadoes scored the game’s final two goals to win.

 

Pat Brady, Dan Plant, Duncan Murchison and Pat O’Brien also scored for the Blue Devils. O’Brien and Ryan Greenhill added assists. Andrew Sheerin stopped 10 shots in goal.

Blue Devil Crew Update

The Blue Devil crew program enjoyed a fine showing at the Long Island Championship Regatta. The girls’ Novice 8 finished third in the first round. The boys’ varsity “A” boat consisting of Ben Kitzen, Steve Correll, Mike O’Connor, Joey West and David Lillienstein advanced to the finals after a second place finish in the first round. Shayne Larkin and Mia Rienzo also placed second in the first round of JV double and finished with silver medals in the finals. Ryan Pavelka won a gold medal in the boys’ JV singles final.

Takekoshi Takes 1500m Run

Huntington track star Celine Takekoshi captured the 1500m run at the Seahawk Invitational at Cold Spring Harbor High School and Cristina Badalamenti took first place in the 400m run and third in the long jump to pace the Blue Devils.

 

The 4 x100m relay team of Hannah Helrich, Lauren Visbal, Dania Merilan and Jennifer Polster finished first. The 4x800m relay team of Takekoshi, Amber Lindner, Alexandra Martinolich and Kerri-Ann Giambruno crossed the finish line in third place. Lidia Aparacio was second in the shot put and fourth in the discus and Monica Rodriquez was fifth in both events.

Blue Devils Fall Just Short

The Huntington boys’ lacrosse team looked like it was headed for a much-needed victory before visiting Sayville rallied for three unanswered goals in the final six minutes to nip the Blue Devils, 7-6.

 

Nick Saputo, Jack Dever, Tyre Brown, Duncan Murchison, Ryan Greenhill and Nick Schoen scored for Huntington. Dever added two assists and Saputo picked up another.

 

Andrew Sheerin made ten saves in goal for the Blue Devils.

Visbal Wins Three Events

Lauren Visbal won the high jump, long jump and triple jump, the latter with a school record setting performance, but the Huntington girls’ track and field team fell to Islip at home, 84-65. Dania Merilan won the 100m and 200m dashes, Jennifer Polster took first place in the pole vault and third in the long jump and Celine Takekoshi was second in both the 1500m and 3000m runs.

 

Blue Devil star Lidia Aparacio won the shot put and Kerri-Ann Giambruno won the 800m run. Hannah Helrich was third in the 100m, 200m and triple jump and Fatimah Gaines was second in the shot put and discus.


LI Junior Rowing Championships

 

The Huntington crew team was simply amazing at the Long Island Junior Rowing Championships. Four Blue Devil boats advanced to the finals with two taking home medals.

 

The boys’ Junior 4 rowed by Steven Correll, Mike O’Connor, Ben Kitzen and Joey West and coxed by David Lillienstein placed fourth in the final race. The Novice Girls’ 8 rowed by Rebecca Palladino, Liz Whitcher, Jamie Brown, Caitlin Dyckes, Claire Beach, Pauline McGlone, Joey Tuozzo, Nikki Smoot and coxed by Holly Blackley also advanced to the finals.

 

Shayne Larkin and Mia Rienzo grabbed silver medals in the junior double race and Ryan Pavelka captured gold in the junior single race.

No Lead is Safe

No lead is safe in Suffolk girls’ lacrosse. Huntington held a 10-7 halftime advantage at Islip only to see it disappear in the second half as the Blue Devils were outscored 13-5 and lost the game 20-15.

 

Huntington’s offense came from Danielle Catanese (3g, 1a), Emma Hayes-Hurley (2g, 3a), Michael Brown (2g, 1a), Emile Pugliese (2g), Sarah Ehrman (2g), Allison Thompson (2g), Hannah Burnett (1g, 1a), Alexandra Kimchy (1g) and Meredith McCourt (1a). Karly Kocis and Samantha Mohr combined to make five saves in the Blue Devil goal.

Pimental Hurls a Beauty

Eighth grader Kevin Pimental was spectacular in pitching the Huntington varsity baseball team to its first victory of the season as the Blue Devils topped host Port Jefferson, 14-3.

 

Pimental threw five innings, fanned six and gave up three hits and one run. Ryan Doyle relieved Pimental to record the final six outs of the game. Matt Curley banged out three hits and drove in four RBIs, including a huge two-run double during an eight run first inning.

 

The Blue Devils played a good, all-around game, with a tight defense.

Stellar Performances on Track

The Huntington girls’ track and field team surged past Rocky Point, 114-35. Top performances were turned in by Celine Takekoshi (1500m, 3000m), Hannah Helrich (100m, 200m), Chloe Barron (400m intermediate hurdles), Cristina Badalamenti (long jump), Lidia Aparicio (shot put, discus), Lauren Visbal (long jump, high jump), Monica Rodriquez (shot put, discus), Dolores Alfaro (discus) and Jennifer Polster (100m high hurdles).

Lead Slips Away

For the second straight game, the Huntington girls’ lacrosse team allowed a first half lead to slip through its collective fingers as Miller Place overcame a 7-6 halftime deficit to top the Blue Devils, 14-11.

 

Huntington’s Danielle Catanese scored three goals and added an assist. Emma Hayes-Hurley also contributed three goals and Emilie Pugliese and Alexandra Kimchy scored two goals each, respectively. Allison Thompson also found the back of the net. Michaela Brown assisted on two goals.

 

Danielle Schantz and Samantha Mohr combined to stop four shots in goal for the Blue Devils.
