Rocky Point edged the Huntington boys’ lacrosse team, 8-6 in a nip-and-tuck game. Ryan Greenhill scored a pair of goals. Nick Shoen (1g), Tyre Brown (1g, 1a), Nick Saputo (1g, 1a) and Jack Dever (1g) also found the back of the net. Jack Castelli and Duncan Murchison contributed assists. Andrew Sheerin stopped ten shots in goal.

Blue Devils Dominate on Track

The Huntington girls’ track and field team turned in a dominating performance at the Westhampton Beach Invitational. Alexandra Martinolich won the 400m intermediate hurdles and was second in the 400m and fifth in the 200m. Celine Takekoshi swept to victory in the 1500m and Chloe Barron finished fourth in the hurdles and fifth in the 400m.

 

Hannah Helrich and Jennifer Polster won the freshman 100m and 100m high hurdles, respectively. Dania Merilan was third in the 100m and 200m runs. Kerri-Ann Giambruno finished third in the freshman 800m and eighth in the 200m. Jacqueline Gomez-Campos was fourth in the novice division of the 100m high hurdles. Maria Jaramillo placed eighth in the 1500m racewalk and Aly Coleman was fourth in the high jump. The 4 x 100m relay team of Lauren Visbal, Helrich, Polster and Merilan finished fourth.

Drakulich is Untouchable

Stefan Drakulich was untouchable in a straight set, 6-0, 6-0 victory as the Huntington junior varsity boys’ tennis team shutout Hauppauge, 7-0. The Blue Devils received skilled play up-and-down the singles and doubles line-ups.

Back-to-Back Round Trippers

Joey Dillhoff and Eric Kothe cracked back-to-back home runs to power the Huntington junior varsity baseball team past Harborfields, 8-1.

Visbal a Triple Winner

Huntington senior Lauren Visbal won the long jump, triple jump and high jump to pace the Blue Devil girls’ track and field team in an 83-60 victory over Hauppauge. Fatimah Gaines (shot put), Monica Rodriquez (discus) Dania Merilan (100m) and Hannah Helrich (200m) also turned in winning performances.

 

Celine Takekoshi finished second in the 1500m and 3000m runs. Chloe Barron and Alexandra Martinolich crossed the line 1-2, respectively, in the 400m intermediate hurdles. Cristina Badalamenti was third in both the 400m and long jump.

 

Jen Polster shattered her Huntington High School pole vault record, clearing 7’6 and also finished second in the 100m high hurdles and long jump. The 4 x 100m relay unit also raced to victory, enjoying its best time this spring.

Tyler Wolfe is Sensational

Eighth grader Tyler Wolfe was impressive in the Huntington boys’ track and field team’s 88-63 victory over Hauppauge. Wolfe captured first place in the 3200m in 11:03 and was third in the 1600m in 4:51.

 

Head coach Ron Wilson has put together another strong squad this spring. Against Hauppauge, sophomore Ryan Ackerman was first in the 800m in 2:11 and second in the 1600m in 4:50. Junior Eric Szilagy was a double winner, with victories in the 400m (0:54) and triple jump (40’1).

 

Jack Dever scored three goals to lead the Huntington boys’ lacrosse team past Islip, 12-4. Nick Saputo added two goals and two assists. Andrew Sheerin stopped 11 shots in goal. Ryan Greenhill also tallied two goals and Connor Know, Nick Schoen, Pat O’Brien, Dan Plant and Sheerin scored individual goals.

Girls’ Lax Unstoppable

The Huntington girls’ lacrosse team played a well-rounded game as it topped East Hampton, 19-10 behind four goals and an assist from Emma Hayes-Hurley. Emilie Pugliese contributed a goal and five assists and Sarah Ehrman added four goals and an assist.

 

The Blue Devils scored 12 first half goals. Huntington’s defense performed brilliantly in the second half, limiting East Hampton to just three goals. Karly Kocis made eight saves in goal.

 

Huntington’s offense was unstoppable as Allie Thompson, Danielle Catanese and Alexandra Kimchy each had three goals and two assists, respectively, and Hannah Burnett had two goals and two assists.

Offensive Lax Struggles

The Huntington boys’ lacrosse team struggled to put the ball in the net as Comsewogue bested the Blue Devils, 10-2. The Warriors’ three goalies recorded 12 saves.

 

Huntington trailed 5-0 after one quarter, 6-1 at halftime and 8-1 after three quarters. Nick Saputo and Tyre Brown scored for the Blue Devils. Jack Dever added an assist. Andrew Sheerin made 11 saves and John McGrath stopped two shots in goal for Huntington.

Moody is Swift

Senior Eugene Moody’s blistering first place performance in the 200m run (22.5 seconds) sent the Huntington boys’ track and field team past host Islip, 78-62. Eighth grader Tyler Wolfe won the 3200m run in 11:09 and junior Stevenson Gabriel was second in the 400m in 54.1 seconds. Up-and-coming freshman Shaheem Lewis took third place in the shot put with a toss of 39’9.
