Finley Girls’ Track is Perfect
A perfect season is quite an accomplishment for an athletic team and the J. Taylor Finley Middle School girls’ track and field squad is rightly proud after compiling a 7-0 mark under coaches Brian Reynolds and Krista Kozlosky.
Reynolds said the team “worked hard in practice and improved throughout the season.” The Falcons were captained by Morgan Mars, Emani Mency and Joellen Ceide. The team’s victories were a mix of blow-outs and nail biters, including close wins over Oldfield (55-53) and Elwood (58-50).
Mars went undefeated in the 200m and 400m sprints and Mency captured first place in the 55m hurdles in six-of-seven meets. Eighth graders Naomi Medina-Jaudes showed “enthusiasm and skill” in the hurdles and long jump, Reynolds said. Eighth grader Hayley Drace placed in the triple jump in every meet.
The 48 athletes who completed the season were talented across-the-board. Reynolds called the team a “great bunch who will be an asset to the varsity program.”
Reynolds expects Finley to be led next spring by Leah Butz, Charlotte Levinson, Suzie Petryk, Maliyah Davis and Rachel Boisclair. “We expect to be very competitive,” the coach said.
This past spring, Butz finished first in the discus in all but one meet and Davis crossed the line first in the 55m dash in six-of-seven meets. Levinson turned in point scoring performances in the 800m and 1500m runs in every single meet.
Can Finley go undefeated again? Why not?
Finley Facts: Mars led the team in points scored . . . Davis earned the most points among all seventh graders on the squad.
