Summer Work Projects
Advance in Huntington

The eight buildings in the Huntington School District are receiving a thorough cleaning this summer, including desks, floors, walls and even ceilings. Work is also advancing on more than a dozen renovation projects.
School officials have also been “in almost daily contact” with Burton Behrendt Smith, the district’s architectural and engineering firm, regarding the installation of modular classrooms at Woodhull School, according to Assistant Superintendent David H. Grackin.
Roger Smith, of BBS, has held numerous conversations with State Education Department officials about the placement of the modular units on the Woodhull site. Mr. Smith discussed the matter at the July 6 meeting of the Huntington School Board.
The summer work includes:
Flower Hill Primary School
• Egress renovations from the cafeteria.
Huntington High School
• Reconstruction and reconfiguration of dean’s and director’s offices.
Jack Abrams School
• Relocate educational materials of reassigned teachers to their new location.
• Construction of new office and instructional spaces.
Jefferson Primary School
• Egress renovations from the cafeteria.
• Americans with Disabilities Act renovations to bathrooms.
Southdown Primary School
• Egress renovations from the cafeteria.
Washington Primary School
• Sand and refinish the gymnasium floor.
• Egress renovations from the cafeteria.
Woodhull School
• Relocate educational materials of reassigned teachers to their new location.
• Remove walls to create additional classroom space.
• Reconstruction and renovation of student occupied spaces.
• Sand and refinish the gymnasium floor.
