Universal Pre-K Program Anticipated for Huntington Children

The Family Service League has announced details of how Huntington School District parents can register children for its anticipated 2010/11 Universal Pre-K program.

Registration for the free anticipated program will be held on the second floor of the St. Hugh of Lincoln Church school building located at 1450 New York Ave. in Huntington Station. (Parking is available in the lot on the corner of New York Ave. and Pulaski Road. Enter at the rear of the building facing Pulaski Road.) To schedule a registration appointment, call 617-5631.

The Universal Pre-Kindergarten program is for those born between Dec. 2, 2005 and Dec. 1, 2006 and is open to all children residing in the Huntington School District. The anticipated program follows the Huntington School District calendar. Classes meet five days per week for 2 ½ hours per day from 9:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

To register, the Family Service League requires a child’s birth certificate, parent/guardian identification, three proofs of address (utility bill, mortgage statement, rent bill, bank statement etc.), record of immunizations, physical exam report from within the past year and alternate emergency contact names and phone numbers.

The Huntington School District will be issuing a “request for proposals” this spring to interested UPK providers. Providers will be chosen in the spring by school trustees after final enactment of the state budget, which provides the district with funds to cover the cost of the program.
