Teacher Nancy Orfan Passes Away
Retired Huntington School District elementary grade teacher Nancy Orfan, who retired July 1, 1992, passed away on December 7. She was 83.
Mrs. Orfan, a longtime Bethpage resident, came to Huntington in September 1972 after teaching in East Meadow for seven years. Over the course of her career in the district she taught either fourth or sixth grades at Village Green Elementary School (two years) J. Taylor Finley 6th Grade School (two years), Woodhull Elementary School (four years), Washington Elementary School (seven years) and Jefferson Elementary School (six years).
Born in Italy, Mrs. Orfan earned undergraduate and graduate degrees at Queens College. She also completed courses at Hofstra University and Columbia University. She is survived by three children, two grandchildren and a brother. She was predeceased by her husband, Louis.
"We were all saddened to learn of Nancy Orfan's passing," Huntington Superintendent John J. Finello said. "She was a dedicated teacher who loved working with her students. She will always be remembered by the hundreds of students and families she touched with kindness over the years."
