Ehrman and Mulligan Honored at Suffolk Zone Dinner

Seniors Sarah Ehrman and Ryan Mulligan are two of Huntington High School's best student-athletes. Their achievements in the world of physical education are well-documented as is their solid academic performance, fine character and willingness to lead.

The pair was recently honored by the Suffolk Zone of the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance during a dinner at the Hyatt Regency Wind Watch in Hauppauge.

"Sarah values a good education and has excelled in math and science," said Georgia D. McCarthy, district director of health, physical education and athletics. "Her positive experiences in physical education motivated her to pursue a career in the medical field where she has a desire to improve the health of others. Sarah will be missed."

Mr. Mulligan is equally talented and accomplished. "Ryan's desire, dedication and intense work ethic are consistent and contagious in physical education," Mrs. McCarthy said. "Ryan always gives his all. Out of all the admirable traits that Ryan possesses, his love for his family, teammates and community makes him very special and vital to our school district."

Ms. Ehrman has signed a national letter of intent to play lacrosse at Stony Brook University on an athletic scholarship. Mr. Mulligan is pursuing entrance to one of America's military service academies.

The Suffolk Zone honors only one senior male and female student from each high school. To be eligible, students must have earned at least a 90 average in physical education class and a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average in all classes prior to the senior year, demonstrate outstanding character, show leadership skills in both physical education class and general school wide activities and serve as a role model for other students.

"We are very proud of these outstanding teenagers," Mrs. McCarthy said. "They have been exceptional representatives of our district and community."
