Huntington Duo in Honors Section at Trombone Day

Huntington High School students Collin Richardson and Matthew Beeby were among just eight musicians out of 50 participants in the Day of Trombone that were selected to play in an honors group at host Longwood High School.
Mssrs. Richardson and Beeby enjoyed quite an experience. The honors group was directed by the legendary Dr. Paul Pollard, a Metropolitan Opera Orchestra bass trombonist. The Huntington duo worked with Dr. Pollard for more than an hour and he played some of the selections along with the teenagers during the ensuing concert.
"Dr. Pollard is an awe-inspiring musician and a really fun teacher and Matt and Collin were thrilled to get the chance to work with him and hear him perform on four selections during the concert with his excellent accompanist, Hanako Yamagato," said Sherry Richardson, Collin's mother.
The event was superbly organized down to the last detail and the afternoon teaching session and evening concert produced an experience that participants will long remember.
Huntington teachers graciously cooperated with Mssrs. Richardson and Beeby being away from the high school for a day by giving them an extra day to complete their homework. Still, the two teenagers are dedicated students and on their way home at 10:30 p.m. were seen studying for a chemistry test the next day.
