Blue Devil Water Bottles
on Sale for a Cause

Huntington sports fans will want to pick-up one of the nifty new Blue Devil water bottles on sale now for $10. The sleek looking item is navy blue with white lettering and comes emblazoned with the distinctive Blue Devil logo.

The water bottles are being offered for sale by the Huntington athletic department in conjunction with the district's Comprehensive Health Advisory Council. The group is looking to raise funds to help underwrite the purchase of a "point of sale" check-out system for the Huntington High School and J. Taylor Finley Middle School cafeterias, said Georgia D. McCarthy, the council's chairperson.

"A point of sale system replaces the old style cash registers on the lunch line," explained David H. Grackin, assistant superintendent for finance and management services. "A student or staff member would get their food from the server and approach the cashier. They would identify themselves by either swiping an ID card or typing in a PIN number on a hand held device. The system has the capability of accepting cash just as the conventional system would but it can also debit a student's or staff member's account."

Such a system will provide confidentiality for students who obtain a free or reduced price lunch. "The back end of the system generates many different reports for management to use to track sales," Mr. Grackin said.

"The water bottles look great and are environmentally friendly," Mrs. McCarthy said.  The item is made from recycled materials. They can be purchased for $10 cash or check (make checks payable to Huntington Athletics) in the athletic office at the high school or at various upcoming school events.

For more information contact the athletic office at 673-2018 or send an e-mail to Mrs. McCarthy at gmccarthy@hufsd.edu.
