Drace’s “Robo-Love” on Display at Heckscher Museum

Leif Drace’s artwork is on display at the Heckscher Museum after the Huntington High School senior’s “Robo-Love” computer graphics piece was selected for inclusion in this year’s Long Island’s Best show.
A student in Huntington teacher Kasmira Mohanty’s class, Mr. Drace is a well-spoken, easy-going teenager with a creative mind. He drew inspiration for his artwork from Lee Adler’s “Two Figures,” a 1975 serigraph on paper.
“I chose the print “Two Figures” by Lee Adler because of its originality, simplicity and color scheme,” Mr. Drace wrote in an artist’s statement accompanying his work. “I took my piece to the next level by making my figures robots and giving them personality through the use of detail, yet retained the artwork’s innocence via color and form.”
The Long Island’s Best exhibition, which includes artwork by 75 top high school artists from Nassau and Suffolk, will continue at the Heckscher Museum through May 2.
