Update on Steve Mock

The 5’9, 165 lb. Mock plays attack. His first collegiate goal and assist came in Cornell’s 19-4 victory over visiting Binghamton on March 9. The game was played before a crowd of 321.

This spring the former Blue Devil great, who wears uniform number 6 for the Big Red, has played in six of the first 11 games of the season, fired off 11 shots and scooped up three ground balls.

Mock has already earned praise from Cornell head coach Jeff Tambroni. “He possesses tremendous vision and skills in the offensive end,” the coach said. “He will bring a field leader’s mentality and a high level of and talent at our attack.”

The J. Taylor Finley boys’ volleyball team finished with a 3-5 record. The three victories were the most by a Falcon boys’ volleyball squad in at least three seasons.

Coached by Damianos Contopoulos, the 17-player Finley team was captained by Jack McCarty, Kenny McCarthy and Ryan Casale.

Contopoulos called Finley a “good team” with “lots of talent.” The three captains along with Brendan Homire were cited by the coach as the top four players on the squad.

With eight current seventh graders eligible to return next winter, there is a real possibility of even more success in the future.

An Avalanche of Goals

Last Saturday was Emma Hayes-Hurley’s moment to shine as the junior scored five goals and assisted on three others to lead the Blue Devil girls’ lacrosse team to a 19-5 win over Westhampton Beach.

ESM jumped out to a 9-3 first half lead before Huntington poured it on in the second frame, going on a 7-3 run. Bosco’s offensive onslaught was supported by two goals from Danielle Catanese, two goals and one assist from Emma Hayes-Hurley and single goals from Emilie Pugliese and Sarah Ehrman. Karly Kocis stopped 11 shots in goal.
