Huntington History: A Mother's Lament
"Today I rose and packed my son
a lunch a monarch would not shun.
An orange and a hard-boiled egg,
a nice cold crunchy chicken leg.
Cheese sandwiches on salty rye,
a pickle, plus a piece of pie.
And what's the reason that I mutter?
He traded it for peanut butter."
As it appeared in the Lincoln School Jotter
(PTA Bulletin) circa 1935
