The Huntington girls' cross country team finished fifth in a field of 14 teams at the Suffolk Officials Invitational. Celine Takekoshi led the Blue Devils with a 14th place finish. Kerri-Ann Giambruno and Alexandra Martinolich turned in personal bests. Gabby Mitchell and Samantha Martinez also ran strong races.

Thomas at Maine

DaShaun Thomas, a former football and wrestling star at Huntington High School, is playing football at the University of Maine. Thomas, who earned All-County honors for the Blue Devils in football and was All-State in wrestling, is a defensive lineman at Maine. Following high school, he played at Milford Academy, a college prep school in Upstate New York.

The 5'10, 255 lb. Thomas was a rugged running back/linebacker for the Blue Devils. The 2008 Huntington High School graduate, sat out last season as a redshirt. He has three years of eligibility remaining after this season. He has been named a Maine Scholar-Athlete Rising Star. Thomas is majoring in sociology.

Victory at Sunken Meadow

Celine Takekoshi took second place in a time of 21:26 over the three mile course at Sunken Meadow State Park to help the Huntington girls' cross country team defeat Deer Park, 19-40. (In cross country, the team with the lowest score wins.)

Santos at Pace

Eric Santos, a 2008 graduate of Huntington High School, is playing on the Pace University football team this fall. Santos, who wears jersey No. 24, has appeared in every Pace game and has played in both the offensive and defensive backfields. He is a 5'10, 220 lb. junior. As a senior, Santos earned All-County honors for the Blue Devils.

Boys' Soccer Nipped

The Huntington boys' soccer team surrendered the game's lone call about 13 minutes into the second half as Comsewogue nipped the Blue Devils, 1-0. Huntington took 10 shots on goal but couldn't score. E.J. Connell made six saves for the Blue Devils.

Ammirati a Winner

Olivia Ammirati looked strong en route to winning 6-1, 6-2 in first singles to pace the Huntington girls' tennis team to a 5-2 victory over visiting Walt Whitman.

Maria Marascia Update

Former Blue Devil sports star Maria Marascia is practicing twice a day as a member of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst women's track and field team. The 2009 Huntington High School graduate is expected to make an impact on the college level this year.

At Huntington, Marascia earned varsity letters in volleyball, basketball and spring track. She is now enrolled in the UMass School of Business, with a double major in finance and sports marketing.
