Huntington Booster Club Enjoys Gorgeous Day of Golf

The Huntington Booster Club enjoyed a gorgeous early fall day on the Crab Meadow Golf Course last week during the group's annual outing. Former Blue Devil sports greats Karen Fischer and Todd Jamison were honored during a dinner that drew a packed house.
The event raised funds to support the organization's ongoing initiatives. The Booster Club has donated more than $100,000 in recent years to support its grant program, scholarships, refurbishing exercise and strength training rooms and the purchase of equipment.
Dozens of alumni, parents and friends of the athletic program turned out for 18-holes of golf on the championship course. The crowd began arriving at mid-day to register and practice on the driving range and putting green. Coaches past and present turned out to either play golf or attend the sumptuous dinner.
The event raised more than $15,000. "We were very happy with the outing," said Barbara Cutrone president of the Huntington Booster Club. "The weather was perfect. We appreciate all the community support we received. It really made a difference and added to the outing's success."
Assemblyman Jim Conte was on hand to present state citations to Ms. Fischer and Mr. Jamison. Former honorees Charlie Forte, Hutch VanderSchuyt and Steve Henry were also there along with Pete Sansiviero, one of the most colorful characters in Blue Devil history. A Huntington alum, he was one of the original faculty members at J. Taylor Finley Junior High School and a longtime coach in the district.
The Booster Club has already begun discussing next year's golf outing and dinner. "The Booster Club's officers and are tireless group of volunteers who want our student-athletes to have the very best experience possible," said Superintendent John J. Finello, who attended the dinner. "It was a great day for the Blue Devils."
