Blue Devil JV Football Wins Again

Overcoming a slow start, the Huntington High School junior varsity football team notched its fourth consecutive victory, this time topping Deer Park, 36-0.
It took the Blue Devils some time to get going. Deer Park (1-3) marched down to Huntington's 12-yard line before the Blue Devil defense stopped the advance on four straight plays.
Big Blue's offense encountered some early difficulty moving the ball. The teams traded punts before Huntington's ground and air attacks clicked. Once they got their hands back on the ball, the Blue Devils needed only two plays to put their first points on the scoreboard.
As the minutes ticked down, Huntington's defense continued to dominate and its offense kept racking up points. When quarterback Ben Kocis found Kieran McGovern in the back of the end zone, the Blue Devils went up 14-0. Soon it was Josh Long's turn as the sophomore scored the team's third touchdown on an 8-yard scramble play to give the home team a 20-0 advantage.
Huntington (4-1) went right to work in the second half, taking six plays to get downfield before Tyler Greenhill ran the ball in for his second touchdown of the morning. The sophomore also nailed the two-point conversion to extend the Blue Devils' lead to 28-0.
"The officials actually looked at us after that drive and said 'Man, that's a textbook drive. You guys went down field methodically and looked very good in doing so,'" recounted Ron Wilson, who coaches Huntington along with Todd Jamison.
Greenhill went on to score his third touchdown of the game later in the third quarter and he made another two-point conversion to give the Blue Devils a 36-0 advantage, which they maintained until the final whistle.
Huntington hosts Eastport-South Manor at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The game was moved from its originally scheduled 9 a.m. kick-off to the afternoon because many players are registered to take the PSAT. ESM will enter the game with a 3-2 mark.
