Deer Park Tops
Blue Devil Football, 21-20

The Huntington football team was oh-so-close to winning last Saturday, but instead the Blue Devils fell at Deer Park, 21-20 in a key Suffolk Division III match-up.

Huntington quarterback Dan Plant threw for three touchdowns, completing 17-of-31 passes for 246 yards. Plant's TD passes included a 52-yarder to Ryan Mulligan, a 14-yard toss to Thomas Mulligan and a 32-yard bullet to Tyre Brown.

The score was knotted 14-14 at halftime. Each of the teams entered the game 3-1. The top eight teams in the division will advance to the post-season after Section XI expanded the number of play-off qualifiers.

Deer Park blocked two extra-point kicks and sacked Plant five times during the game. The Blue Devils came close to taking the lead late in the fourth quarter but fumbled the ball near the goal line, ending what had looked like a possible winning drive.

Huntington plays again this Friday night at 7 p.m. at Eastport-South Manor High School. ESM fell to 2-3 on the season when it lost to Kings Park last Saturday, 35-14.
