Finley Sports Participation
Edges Higher

Participation in the J. Taylor Finley Middle School athletic program has edged higher, with 249 students on seven teams this fall. The figure represents about 35 percent on the school's enrollment.

The seventh grade football team has the largest roster with 57 players, followed by the eighth grade gridiron team, which has 41 members. Co-ed cross country (37 runners), girls' soccer (35 players), field hockey (33 players), boys' soccer (32 players), and girls' tennis (14 players) also have healthy levels of interest.

The participation report, which was compiled by Georgia D. McCarthy, district director of physical education, health and interscholastic athletics, was given to Huntington School Board members last week.

The three boys' teams this fall have 130 players; the three girls' teams have 82 players and the one co-ed squad consists of a mixture of 37 boys and girls.

There were 242 students on Finley's fall teams last year. That total included 110 on three boys' teams, 101 on the three girls' squads and 31 on the one co-ed team.
