Blue Devil Lax Alums Lift SUNY Plattsburgh
Blue Devil lacrosse alums Adrian Marino and Patrick Wright helped lift Plattsburgh State College to the SUNY Athletic Conference semi-finals as the pair combined for 37 goals and ten assists against some tough competition.
Plattsburgh closed out its season with a 9-8 mark after falling to top-seeded Geneseo in the SUNYAC semi-finals, 21-11. Wright scored twice in that game and Marino contributed a goal and an assist in his final college contest.
The 5’11, 175 lb. Wright, is a sophomore this year, but he’s still savoring a splendid freshman campaign that saw him take the field in 15 games, including eight starts, score 18 goals and add two assists from his attack position. The former Huntington great fired off 51 shots, 41 of them on goal, and he scooped up 16 ground balls in his first year of college lacrosse.
Marino, a 6’0, 180 lb. senior, is majoring in environmental science. He played in all 17 games last season, scoring 19 goals and tallying eight assists. The Huntington grad, who was third on the team in goals scored, took 61 shots, including 40 on goal, and picked up 25 ground balls from his midfield position.
Wright’s first college goals came when he scored twice at Farmingdale State to help Plattsburgh grab a 21-7 early season victory. One of the highlight’s of Marino’s season was a four-goal performance against nationally ranked St. Lawrence University.
While Marino is back on the Plattsburgh campus this fall finishing up some courses needed to graduate, his four years of NCAA eligibility have concluded. So, Wright will have to carry the Huntington torch with the college team all by himself.
