Huntington Alum Embraces Villanova
At this time last year, Erin Brown was a senior walking around Huntington High School on top of the world. Now she’s a month into classes as a freshman at Villanova University in Philadelphia but she’s still on the proverbial “Cloud Nine.”
“The reading is starting to pile up, but I have plenty of time to get everything done between practice and classes,” Ms. Brown said. “I absolutely love the campus. The stone buildings are beautiful and one of the reasons why I fell in love with the school in the first place.”
At Huntington, Ms. Brown was near the top of the Class of 2009 and was a member of the National Honor Society and the English and foreign language honor societies. She won Coaches Awards with both the tennis and crew teams.
Where her studies at Villanova will take Ms. Brown is still an unanswered question. “As of right now, I'm not sure what I want to study,” she said. “I'm in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and just figuring out what subjects I like most.”
While she’s assuredly a fine student, Ms. Brown is an athlete, too. At Villanova, she chose to pursue a sport she grew to love at Huntington. “I'm on the crew team here so that keeps me pretty busy,” the Huntington alum said. “I have to get up at 5 every morning, five days a week. It's pretty demanding, but I love rowing and all the girls on the team.”
Known by teachers and classmates as a mature young woman with an unmatched work ethic, Ms. Brown has always been a wonderful role model to all those around her. At Huntington, one of her favorite activities was the Habitat for Humanity club.
“Although it's great to be in college, I miss my Huntington High School days,” Ms. Brown said. “The high school prepared me for where I am today and I feel confident that I can do well here. The memories and education I got at Huntington are something I'll never forget.”
