Scott Kocis Stars for Georgetown Lacrosse
Blue Devil lacrosse fans always knew Scott Kocis was a special type of player, so it really isn’t surprising that he has developed into a legitimate college star at Georgetown University.
The 2006 Huntington High School graduate, was Inside Lacrosse magazine’s No. 3 recruit in the nation his senior year. He originally inked a letter of intent to attend Duke, but after that program was thrown into disarray by what eventually proved to be false accusations leveled against players there, Kocis was released from his commitment and accepted a scholarship to play for the Hoyas.
The 6’4, 215 lb. Blue Devil great is majoring in government at Georgetown. Last year as a junior, he scored 21 goals and added eight assists from his midfield position, earning All-ECAC first team honors. He really hit his stride in the final three games of the season, tallying eight goals and three assists.
Kocis was named ECAC Player of the Week after a three goal, one assist performance in a 13-10 win over the University of Massachusetts, which was ranked 12th in the nation at the time. The following week the Blue Devil alum scored three goals in a 15-7 Georgetown victory over Rutgers. That effort garnered him a spot on the league’s honor roll.
Known as a savvy player with a great shot, Kocis enjoyed a splendid run with the Blue Devils. As a Huntington senior he tallied 44 goals and 43 assists and won 85 percent of his face-offs en route to being named Long Island Player of the Year.
The two-time high school All-American totaled 109 goals and 107 assists during his storied high school career, helping the team win the 2005 and 2006 New York State Class B championships. Huntington went a combined 43-0 over Kocis’ junior and senior seasons.
As a college freshman, Kocis appeared in 15 games, starting three contests. He compiled seven goals and an assist, scoring in games against Navy, Fairfield, Rutgers, Penn State, Princeton, Syracuse and Hobart.
A shoulder injury limited him to two games in his sophomore season, but Kocis, who turned 21 on August 7, bounced back last spring and is now considered one of the best players in NCAA Division I. He has 28 goals and nine assists in 31 career games.
In addition the lacrosse, Kocis played on the football, basketball and golf teams at Huntington High School and was in the National Honor Society. He is the son of Michael and Christina Kocis.
