Huntington Grad Named College Lax Coach
Matt Cukro, a 2002 graduate of Huntington High School, is one of the newest college coaches in the nation. The Blue Devil alum has just been hired as the defensive coordinator for the men’s lacrosse team at California State University at Fullerton.
Cukro began playing lacrosse as a 10-year old and was a three-year member of the Huntington varsity. He later played four years at SUNY College at Plattsburgh, where he started for three seasons at long stick midfield and close defense. He was the team captain as a senior. After earning his bachelor’s degree in education, he stayed on at Plattsburgh and was a graduate assistant coach for two years while completing his master’s degree in school counseling.
He is a certified to teach social studies and work as a school counselor in both New York and California. He also holds National Board for Counselor certification. He is currently residing and working as a teacher in Whittier, CA, former President Richard Nixon’s hometown.
“Matt's enthusiasm for the game of lacrosse and his desire to help take the Titans to the next level of success is exactly what the Titan program needs at this time,” new head coach Kyle Morrison said. “I am thrilled that we were able to land Matt and I am excited to see what he will bring our program.”
Morrison comes to Cal State Fullerton from the University of San Diego where he served as the defensive coordinator and earlier played. He’s very bullish on what Cukro can bring to the team.
"I am very pleased to have brought in Matt Cukro as the defensive coordinator,” Morrison said. “He is extremely knowledgeable about the game and our chemistry together will be unstoppable."
