Christine Corcoran will miss Huntington
Christine Corcoran will join the ranks of Huntington High School graduates this Friday night along with the other members of the Class of 2009. The thrill of receiving her diploma will be mixed with a dose of sadness that a wonderful four year run is ending.
“I loved high school,” Ms. Corcoran said. “Here I met so many amazing people and had so many great opportunities to do what I love. The time I spent in high school really has shaped me as a person, which I am very grateful for. As much as I'm excited about college, I truly am going to miss Huntington.”
In the fall, Ms. Corcoran will begin studies at the University of Delaware. She is undecided on an academic major. Known as a confident and mature young woman, she has been a role model for classmates.
The senior, who was among those feted at the Distinguished Seniors Dinner this spring, pointed to her participation in the Blue Devil marching band and the school’s student government as highlights of her high school years. “I participated in marching band all four years,” Ms. Corcoran said with pride. “I marched as a flute in ninth grade, played bass drum on the drum line in tenth grade, was flute section leader in eleventh grade and had the honor of being a drum major in twelfth grade.”
“In the classroom, Christine is a plugger and a challenger,” said Bernadette Walsh, the high school college counselor. “She has convictions and is not easily swayed from them. Her contributions to class discussions are well respected because the students realize that Christine is always prepared and thoroughly researches her points. Teachers remark that she is the type of student they love to have in class; someone who strives for excellence and never loses sight of the real importance of learning.”
“I made some close friends and have a lot of amazing memories from marching band, like getting to go to Arizona for the Fiesta Bowl in ninth grade and going to Disney World this past April,” Ms. Corcoran said. The soon-to-be grade was also involved with the student government for the past three years and served as its treasurer this year.
A familiar voice around the high school since she regularly broadcast the morning announcements, Ms. Corcoran was integrally involved in such activities as Homecoming, Battle of the Classes and Playfest.
“I loved being involved in the school and having fun doing it,” she said. One of her most memorable experiences was a trip to Spain last year with classmates. “It was the first time I've been to Europe and I had the time of my life,” Ms. Corcoran said. “I'm so thankful for Ms. [Camille] Tedeschi and Ms. [Pam] Piffard organizing that trip because it is something I'll never forget.”
“Christine is a remarkable young woman with a bright future ahead of her,” said Ms. Piffard, who along with Ms. Tedeschi is on the high school faculty. Teachers won’t soon forget Ms. Corcoran.
