Huntington Booster Club Honored at Banquet

The Huntington Booster Club is a force to be reckoned with.  With its impressive backing, there really is no telling how high the Blue Devil athletic program can fly.

At the 41st senior athletic awards banquet, Booster Club officers Barbara Cutrone (president), Bill Hughes (vice-president), Christine Beck (corresponding secretary), MaryAnne Hicks (fundraising coordinator), Chris Duffy (treasurer), Steve Thompson (alumni coordinator), Carol Scully (recording secretary), Tim Pillion (high school rep) and Christina Plant (middle school rep) were all asked to take a collective bow by Georgia McCarthy, district director of athletics.

“Over the past two years, the Booster Club has donated over $57,000 to the athletic department,” Mrs. McCarthy said.  “It’s helped with everything from batting tees and sports drinker tanks to brass shots and rowing shoes.  The one extreme donation that has created a big surge in weight and cardio training has been the reconstruction of both weight rooms.  The downstairs weight room is equipped with state of the art strength training machines and aids, while the one upstairs has been outfitted with treadmills, elliptical machines, spin bikes and strength training machines.”

Mrs. McCarthy presented the officers with a plaque commemorating the athletic department’s appreciation for the Booster Club’s mighty efforts.  The plaque will be mounted inside the club’s new trailer that it uses to sell food and apparel at games and community events. It most recently was parked in front of the high school lobby during the budget vote and trustee election.

The Booster Club holds two major fundraisers each year.  In October it hosts a golf outing and dinner at Crab Meadow and then a March Madness reception at Christopher’s Courtyard Café in Huntington village.  It also sells food and refreshments at athletic games throughout the school year.

The Booster Club is sponsoring ten summer camps this summer.  For more information about the camp program, log onto the Huntington School District’s website at www.hufsd.edu.  Click on the School Community link, then the Booster Club tab on the left side of the screen and then select Forms & Files or just click on the Athletics link and then on Summer Programs.
