Huntington Graduation Set for Friday, June 26 at 6 p.m.

Huntington High School officials are busy planning graduation exercises for the Class of 2009.  The ceremony will be held Friday, June 26 at 6 p.m. on the turf athletic field at the school. The public is invited to attend the outdoor event, which does not require tickets.

A rehearsal will be held on June 25 at 10 a.m.  Students have been notified of outstanding equipment, books or fines and were asked to settle their obligations prior to graduation day.

Candidates for graduation should report to the high school gym by 5 p.m. on June 26.  Boys have been asked to wear dress slacks, collared shirts and dress shoes.  Girls are asked to wear either a dress or a shirt and blouse.  Students are forbidden to wear jeans, shorts, tank tops, sneakers or similar apparel.  “Any student who does not adhere to the above will be asked to return home to dress appropriately,” Huntington Principal Carmela Leonardi wrote in a letter to parents.

The principal said certain modifications will be employed since the athletic field is synthetic turf instead of natural grass.  “Students will only be allowed to wear flats on the day of graduation since anyone walking across the field and/or track will damage these surfaces,” Dr. Leonardi said.  “Parents and guests are not allowed to come on to the field for that same reason and must enter and exit only through marked gates.”

Following the end of the ceremony, the students will march off the field and meet with parents and family members near an archway that will be erected for the event on the baseball field and on the adjoining athletic fields.  If tradition holds, thousands of photos will be taken following the ceremony.

Students will be issued four tickets for the graduation exercises.  They will only be necessary if it rains and the ceremony is moved indoors to the school auditorium.  For more information call the high school at 673-2001.
