Trustees Accept Generous Donations

Huntington School Board members accepted a number of donations to the district during a public meeting on July 7.  “These generous contributions will benefit our students and programs,” Superintendent John J. Finello said.

The Huntington Foundation for Excellence in Education donated $10,000 toward the first year’s payment on a new Apple Macintosh computer video lab at Huntington High School, which will be used by students in the video program there.

“With this new and improved video lab, our students’ creative minds will no longer be held back due to outdated technology,” wrote art-video teacher Heather Swan in a Huntington Foundation Star grant application.  “This technology will make the very technical work our students do much less frustrating, will improve the quality of the projects they are able to produce and will result in more students being successful in the video program.”

The Huntington Foundation also donated $3,340 to cover expenses associated with the sixth grade trip to the Greenkill outdoor education center.  It allowed students who could not afford the cost of the trip to participate in it.

Huntington parent Joanne Cohn donated sheet music valued at $200 and photo development trays worth an estimated $20.  The Huntington Band Parents donated a tower/scaffold podium for use by the marching band.  Valued at $2,200, the new piece of equipment will replace one currently in use.

The Huntington Fire Department donated $1,000 in recognition of the Blue Devil marching band’s participation in the Memorial Day parade.  The money was designated for the high school band’s student activity account.
