Congratulations continue to roll in for the 66 advanced math students at J. Taylor Finley Middle School who notched impressive scores on the June Integrated Algebra Regents. All of them passed the difficult test and 62 students scored an 85 or higher.
“I am very proud of our accelerated math students,” Principal John Amato said. “They met the challenge. The teachers worked hard as well.”
Huntington High School issued 238 diplomas in June. According to Director of Guidance Peter Paternostro, the school awarded 39 local diplomas, 101 Regents diplomas, two Regents diplomas with honors, 56 Regents diplomas with advanced designation, 36 Regents diplomas with advanced designation with honors and four IEP diplomas. Thirty students did not graduate.
The latest elementary level enrollment projections released by Huntington School District officials show 529 students at Woodhull Intermediate School, 519 youngsters at Jack Abrams Intermediate School, identical enrollments of 354 students at both Jefferson and Southdown primary Schools, 376 youngsters at Flower Hill and 374 students at Washington. Assistant Superintendent Joseph Giani stressed that the numbers will change with last minute registrations and transfers to other districts.
The summer reading program for English Language Learners in the Huntington School District included 85 students spread over the kindergarten through eighth grade level. In all, there were 28 incoming kindergarten youngsters enrolled. The program was supervised by teacher Sylvia Gilbert. It ran from 9-10:30 a.m. for three weeks. The district supplied transportation for participants.
The Huntington School District will celebrate Spanish Heritage Month during September. Various special activities and displays are planned in individual buildings.
