School Board Appoints New Blue Devil Coaches

The Huntington Blue Devil coaching staff welcomed three new coaches after the trio was appointed by the Huntington School Board to work this fall.

The coaches include Christopher Mooney (JV boys’ volleyball), Linnea Michaels (JV field hockey) and Stephon Sair (Finley-7 football).

Mr. Mooney earned his Bachelor of Science degree in education at New York University in May 2007.  He is a certified social studies teacher.  He captained NYU’s club volleyball team and was an All-Division honorable mention selection.  Mr. Mooney has coached club volleyball for 13-18 year olds since October 2006.

Mr. Sair earned his Bachelor of Science degree in physical education at SUNY College at Cortland.  His teaching certification is pending.  He is a three-time NCAA Division III All-American in wrestling, winning the 2006 national title and finishing second last winter.  He captured three Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference crowns.

Mr. Sair also starred on Cortland’s football team, earning All-American honorable mention honors twice and grabbing First Team All-Conference recognition three times.  He shattered Cortland’s record for most career interceptions.  A 2002 Huntington High School alumnus, Mr. Sair won the New York State wrestling championship for the Blue Devils and quarterbacked the football team.

Ms. Michaels earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in African-American studies at Smith College in May 2007.  She also studied at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London.  She captained Smith College’s field hockey team.  Ms. Michaels has also worked as a teacher/social worker at the Baphumelele Children’s Home in Khayelitsha, South Africa.
